The Nutritional Research Project began one year ago—who would have thought we could accomplish so much in such a short time? We have just begun and there is still much to do, but we wanted to stop and thank all of you who help make it possible.

Since our December 2010 launch party at Peter Max’s art studio in NYC, we have been off and running.

NRP 2011 Accomplishments:

New Studies Seeking Complete Funding

  • 3 studies are already underway, about to begin, or in the proposal phase: Adequacy of Essential Fatty Acid Intake in a Vegan Diet; Breast Cancer Prevention Study; and the Cardiovascular Disease Study. We have $50,000 committed for the Fatty Acid study and, for the other two studies, we have raised $100,000 with additional commitments. For 2012, we need to raise at least a million dollars. Read more about these and other studies awaiting funding.

Excellent Partners

  • We are fortunate to have a number of important partners supporting us: Dr. Fuhrman online, Whole Foods, Peer Trainer, Peter Max, Vitamix and Nutrient Rich.
  • In August, Vitamix sweetened the donation deal by offering free Vitamix blenders to all who donated $1,000 or more—about 75 donors took advantage of that amazing deal.

Great Researchers

  • In addition to Dr. Fuhrman, our Director of Research, we have brought on 3 more researchers to the NRP team! They are: Dr. Michael Greger, Director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture at The Humane Society of the United States and founder of NutritionFacts.org; Dr. Kristine Kelsey, Research Assistant Professor in the Nutrition Department at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; and Dr. Barbara Sarter, Associate Professor in Advanced Practice Nursing at the University of San Diego. We are thrilled with their knowledge and expertise, and are excited to have them on board.

Events and Festivals

  • Dr. Fuhrman’s Annual Health Getaway was held this summer in Park City, UT. Over 300 attendees spent a week in beautiful surroundings learning about the benefits of a high nutrient density, whole foods, plant-based diet. Next year’s Getaway has already been announced and looks to be more gourmet than ever!
  • Our first-ever Nutritarian Festival took place August in Aspen, CO. The 3-day event was a huge hit, drawing large crowds from the community for our Nutritarian cook-off. We heard from Dr. Fuhrman and Whole Foods CEO John Mackey, sharing their knowledge and inspiration. Keep your eyes out for festivals coming to your town.
  • In September, the National Health Association (NRP’s parent organization) held its 60th Healthy Living Conference in Florida. Lectures on nutrition, fasting, digestion, knee and back pain, stroke, healthy aging and more were given by a host of inspirational speakers, including the NRP’s Dr. Michael Greger.

NRP has more than 1,800 fans on Facebook! Tell your friends about us, so we can grow even bigger!

Our accomplishments would not be possible without the financial contributions, participation and encouragement of our supporters. We are grateful to all of you who believe in us and our mission to show that nutrition can prevent, treat and reverse disease. Thank you for a fantastic 2011.
